Different Dream Parenting Update
Different Dream Parenting: A Practical Guide to Raising a Child with Special Needs has been on the market for less than two weeks, but it’s already being noticed. Wahoo, Wahoo! I’m especially proud of two reviews.
Lori McGahan at www.BridgeofHope.com
The first comes from Lori McGahan who is a DifferentDream.com guest blogger. She’s the mother of a little boy with the same birth anomaly as our son, so when she said calling the book a practical guide to raising a child with special needs is “right on the money,” I wanted to do cartwheels. To read her entire review, visit www.bridgeofhope.com. To see the YouTube video of me doing cartwheels…well, there is no such video since I never learned to do cartwheels.
Anne-Marie McClellan at the Christian Booksellers Association
The second review comes from the Christian Booksellers Association’s (CBA) official magazine. Katy Pent, the publicist at Discovery House Publishers (DHP) sent me a PDF of the review, which was an unexpected and welcome surprise to both of us. Here’s a brief excerpt of what Anne-Marie McClellan had to say:
“As the mother of a child who has special needs, I’m constantly searching for resources that will help me with any and all aspects of raising my special little guy. Author Jolene Philo has written a complete and comprehensive guide to raising a child with special needs.”
To read the entire review click on CBA review of Different Dream Parenting. It begins at the bottom of the middle paragraph. Be sure to notice it’s on the same page the review of a new book by Billy Graham’s son-in-law Tullian Tchividjian. – which I consider a literary example of six degrees of separation. But I digress.
Write Your Own Review
Your feedback on Different Dream Parenting is important, too. So please leave comments below. Or go to the Different Dream Parenting webpages on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and Christianbook.com and write a review. (You can cut and paste it to all three sites.) Positive reviews are very influential in persuading potential buyers to make a purchase. Your reviews as parents of kids with special needs will speak to the hearts of other parents in similar circumstances.

Jolene, that’s so exciting! I’m glad it’s getting out there and helping families and that others are spreading the word! That’s got to be such confirmation for all the work and time you spent on it. Can’t wait to join in the blog tour!
Thank you, Laurie. I can’t wait to “visit” your blog and meet your followers.

OK…I am only one chapter into the book and LOVE it! WhenI read the words “from ambush to advocate” you had me HOOKED!! Not to mention the simple yet perfect prayer at the end of the chapter – where were those words when we heard the diagnosis of Rett Syndrome for our sweet Brooklyn – I sure did not have them to speak. THANK YOU. I look forward to every single page that lies ahead of me!

Mommy to Boston – Down Syndrome and Brooklyn – Rett Syndrome
Dear Kelly,
Thanks for the positive feedback, Kelly. Ambushed is how I felt when the doc diagnosed our son, too. I want every parent to know they can become an effective advocate for their child. The challenge is to get the book into parents’ hands so they have the comfort and advice they need when they need it. Thanks for tackling the challenge with me.
