Princess for a Day: Miss Lily’s Special Teas, Part 3

Welcome back to the final post in the series about Miss Lily’s Special Teas. If you haven’t read the previous posts in the series (Part One, Part Two), they describe the history of Jennifer Ciptak’s business and the special teas she does for kids with special needs. In this post, Jennifer tells how kids and parents responded to one of her teas.
A Special Chari-Tea
Can you think of one party to describe in more detail? How do families respond?
Families react to the teas with amazement and gratitude. They truly are thankful and relieved that we cover every aspect of the par-tea and little preparation is needed on their part. The parents can sit back and relish in the festivities alongside their children. A par-tea that sticks out in my mind is the chari-tea we hosted for the inpatients at the Children’s Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. Even though dietary restrictions kept us from having edible treats, everyone enjoyed treats of other kinds: Cinderella and her assistants decorated a room to the hilt with mylar balloons (alternative to latex because of allergies), feather boas draped over chairs, crowns and tiaras atop the tables and a scenic backdrop–- looked like a castle fit for a prince or princess, played tape the hat on the teddy (several games at various heights to accommodate kids standing and kids in wheelchairs), read stories, played music and best of all, stuffed adorable keepsake teddy bears. The party was a big hit for the children, their families and the hospital staff – a chance to escape into a fairytale land for a little while. The kids gave us thanks, hugs or smiles that are simply unforgettable.
Do you know of any other businesses like yours elsewhere in the country?
No. I know of traveling tea party services, but none in the area and none that cater specifically to children with special needs.
