Morgan’s Wonderland: A Dream Come True
You know, sometimes I come across a story that puts a smile on my face. The story of Morgan’s Wonderland is one of them.
What Is Morgan’s Wonderland?
Morgan’s Wonderland is a theme park under construction in San Antonio, Texas. It’s slated to open in February of 2009. Now that may not sound like anything unusual. But when it’s finished, the theme park will be the largest one in the world that is accessible to special needs kids. According to their website, “the funding for Morgan’s Wonderland began with an initial $1,000,000 donation from Gordon and Maggie Hartman inspired by the love of their daughter Morgan. The park’s fundraising campaign has been bolstered by financial commitments from the City of San Antonio ($7,250,000), Bexar County ($5,000,000) and the State of Texas ($5,500,000). That total of $17.75 million, along with up to $10 million of additional funds to be raised from local foundations, corporations and individuals, will be used to complete the development of the park.”
Who Is Morgan Hartman?
Morgan is a young woman who endured major surgeries and spent time in ICU on a ventilator. Her ability to encourage others during her hospitalization was the inspiration for Morgan’s Wonderland. As described at the park’s website, “Morgan’s boundless love and ability to ‘soar’ above her challenges were the true inspiration for this amazing park. Morgan’s desire to make everyone around her happy will be magnified and expanded by the worldwide appeal of this park.”
