Chromosome 18 Deficiency: What’s That?

Chromosome 18

Since the release of A Different Dream for My Child, I’ve met some of the most interesting people. One of them is Julio Morales.

Natalie’s Story

Julio and his wife Ruthy are passionate about special needs kids because their second oldest daughter Natalie was born with a Chromosome 18 Deficiency. You can read more about Natalie, who functions at the level of a three-year-old, in this article at SpecialNeedsBridge.com.

Chromosome 18

If you want more information about more information about Chromosome 18, go to Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society. There you can learn about the different types of Chromosome 18 irregularities, the ways the irregularities manifest themselves in children, and current research. Some of it gets pretty technical, too technical for me, but were I the parent of a child with Chromosome 18, the information would be invaluable.

Special Needs Bridge

Julio and Ruthy Morales family do more than care for Natalie and their other three daughters. This summer, they decided to reach out to the special needs community by creating a website, of www.specialneedsbridge.com, designed to point families of special needs kids to important resources. Julio adds links to the website and answers emails from other parents most evenings, working far into the night. He says the response to Special Needs Bridge has been overwhelming at times, but it also points to the need for such a research.

Check Out SpecialNeedsBridge.com

If you’re the parent of a special needs child, you will find a visit to www.SpecialNeedsBridge.com worthwhile. You can help build the site’s resource base by registering as a member and submitting URLs. Once they’ve been checked out and approved, they will be included in the registry.
